Sheep Blood Agar Base

Blood Agar (BA) are enriched culture medium specially designed to encourage the growth of medically-important fastidious bacteria that do not grow well in normal agar such as Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Neisseria species. Due to the variety of complex nutrients and condition of blood, it can also function as differential agar for hemolytic bacteria for instance streptococcus species, which will be destroying the red blood cell (RBC) by cytolytic toxins secreted by some bacteria.
